In Switzerland today, the draws for the 2007 European Youth (up to 21 years old) Championship were also drawn. The opponents of the Lithuanian youth national team in the third group will be Serbia and Montenegro, as well as the winners of the pairs of Malta and Georgia.
According to the new tournament format, the 16 lowest-ranked national teams will play against each other in eight pairs to determine who will advance to the group stage tournament. The first matches of the group stage tournament will be played on August 16th, and the second matches will take place on September 2-3 and 5-6.
Among the 14 groups, where three teams will play, the winners will advance to the knockout matches, and there will be 7 teams that will join the host Netherlands in the final tournament. After the 2007 championship, the next competition will be held every two years.
