In May 2011, Andrea Masiello, who scored an own goal in the Italian "Serie A" competition, was sentenced to 22 months in prison conditionally. The 26-year-old footballer, currently without a contract with any club, was wearing "Bari" jerseys at that time, but got involved in a shocking football betting scandal and assisted the opponents in the match against "Lecce". In court, admitting to the incident, Masiello avoided a real imprisonment sentence. Interestingly, despite the defender's help, "Lecce" was unable to secure a place in the top Italian league.
