UEFA Cup winners from Gelsenkirchen acquired Danish national team defender Christian Poulsen.
The 26-year-old defender, who took part in the 2002 World Cup and the 2004 European Championship, signed a three-year contract with the Sevilla club.
Poulsen moved to Schalke in 2002 from Copenhagen, and played 83 matches in the German Bundesliga for the Gelsenkirchen club.
Sevilla finished fifth in the Spanish championship last season, earning a spot in the UEFA Cup tournament.
