S.Gerrard: I told L.Suarez that he is too good for Arsenal" © JumpStory

"Liverpool" club captain Steven Gerrard understands Luis Suarez's desire to move to "Barcelona" and is happy that the Uruguayan did not move to "Arsenal" last summer.

In the summer of 2013, "Arsenal" tried to attract the forward to the team and offered 40 million and 1 pound for the football player. This amount was specified in L.Suarez's contract as a buyout price, and later "Liverpool" owner John William Henry admitted that not selling the forward risked legal issues.

Steven Gerrard also believes that in the upcoming season "Liverpool" would have been favorites to win the "Premier" league if L.Suarez had remained in the team.

"Suarez's wife is from Barcelona. I don't think we can blame a player who worked hard to achieve his dream. His dream from the very beginning was to play for "Real" or "Barca". Last summer, when he trained on his own due to illness, I told him: "Don't go to the "Arsenal" club".

"I would have been truly disappointed if he had moved to London. With all due respect to them, I thought Suarez was too good for the "Arsenal" club. I told him that if he scored 30 goals and won the player of the season award, which he did, "Barca" and "Real" will come for you", - said the 34-year-old Englishman.

"I am disappointed that he has to leave, but I am glad that he has achieved what he wanted and deserved. From the very first day, he was a phenomenal player in training and matches. I think he was given bad advice that he has to play in the Champions League no matter what club".

"If you play well, Spanish clubs will come back for you. And I knew that would happen to Luis. I thought he had to stay in the "Liverpool" for another year and earn the respect of the fans. Many think he should have stayed for another year, but my dream was to play for "Liverpool", while foreign players dream of "Real" or "Barcelona" clubs, that's a fact", - said the veteran.

"Barcelona" paid 81 million euros for the Uruguayan national team forward, who spent two and a half years in the "Liverpool" team.
