As reported by the French champions on Tuesday, French national team striker Sidney Govou has extended his contract with Lyon and will be represented by them until 2008.
"The details of the agreement will be announced when Sidney is selected for the 2008 European Championship qualifiers against Georgia and Italy," the club statement reads.
The 27-year-old player began his professional football career in 1997 at Lyon. He has represented the national team 23 times and was a member of the national team in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, where they won silver medals in a dramatic final against Italy, losing after a penalty shootout.
According to the French media, the player has been in talks with foreign clubs such as Birmingham's Aston Villa and Sevilla's Betis.
