Siauliai - a step away from 4th place

In the 33rd round of the "TOPsport A liga," FA "Šiauliai" celebrated a very important victory. The representatives of the Sun City demonstrated their superiority after two quick goals against Marijampolės "Sūduva," which had gone six matches without defeat – 2:1 (2:0).

The hosts made their mark during the very first attack, when Rolandas Baravykas scored with a header following a pass from Mantas Kuklys. In the 11th minute, another cross from the left flank resulted in M. Kuklys redirecting the ball into the net with his head.

Before the break, the Marijampolė team managed only an ineffective shot on target from Žygimantas Baltrūnas, while on the other side of the pitch, Giedrius Zenkevičius had a bit more work to do. The situation changed after the break – the guests took the initiative.

In the 56th minute, Marijampolės club was able to reduce the deficit when Steve Lawson converted a penalty earned by Tautvydas Burdzilauskas. "Sūduva" had several good opportunities to restore the balance, with the best chance falling to Rokas Filipavičius, who struggled to connect properly with the ball right in front of the goal.

The guest coach, Dovydas Lastauskas, called on Aivaras Emsys, who had returned from injury after more than six months, while Eligijus Jankauskas, also coming on as a substitute, failed to find the target during a quick attack.

With 39 points, the team from Šiauliai feels more secure in 5th place, while "Sūduva" has 33 points and stands in 9th, edging out Telšiai's "Džiugas," which has one point less.
