Aurelijus Skarbalius admits that he may soon step down from the position of head coach.
The 38-year-old Lithuanian was unexpectedly appointed to this post at the end of October, when he replaced the dismissed Henry Jensen. "Auri" signed a temporary contract, valid until the end of this year, although earlier he had planned to work as an assistant coach for "Brondby" after leaving "Koge" in 2012.
In the last Danish league match before the winter break on Sunday, "Brondby" played a 1-1 draw with "Koge", and the specialist from Lithuania confirmed that he would not be surprised if he was offered the role of assistant coach again from the new year.
"I accepted the invitation from "Brondby" because I wanted more responsibility. However, that responsibility also comes when working not as the head coach, but in the coaching staff," said Skarbalius.
Skarbalius, along with Valdas Ivanauskas, is the most realistic contender to coach the Lithuanian national team. Earlier, the country's football leaders stated that they would negotiate with the specialist if he did not work as the head coach of "Brondby" - in that case, he would not be able to combine the two roles.
"First of all, he needs to dig himself out and help "Brondby" rise from 10th place in the Danish league. This position is very unusual for such a famous team, so we can only wish Skarbalius good luck. If something doesn't work out for him, of course, I will contact him," said Julius Kvedaras, the general director of LFF, in October.
In six matches led by the famous Lithuanian footballer, the Danish club won one game, played three draws, and lost twice. In the league table of twelve teams, "Brondby" currently occupies the tenth place.
The season in Denmark will continue from the beginning of March 2012.
