Skarbalius, who has extended his contract with "Brondby", will not train the national team © EuroFootball.com

Aurelijus Skarbalius will not be coaching the Lithuanian national team in the near future - the specialist has extended his contract with the "Brondby" club for another two years.

However, both parties have the possibility to terminate the contract after six months.

This means that Skarbalius will not become the coach of the Lithuanian national team. Both the country's federation leaders and the strategist himself admitted that it would be too difficult to combine the two jobs.

One of the most famous Danish teams appointed Skarbalius as head coach at the end of October. Initially, he planned to work as Henry Jensen's assistant, but after Jensen lost his job, he received an unexpected offer to lead the team.

After a trial period, during which "Brondby" won one match, lost once, and played three times, he was offered to continue working.

"The club leaders showed courage in choosing me, as they could not look for a more famous specialist," said the 38-year-old Lithuanian. "Nothing in life comes for nothing. If you invest properly and work correctly, the results will come. The only question is when."

Currently, "Brondby" is in 10th place in the national championship.

"The main goal in the spring will be to climb out of the bottom of the standings as quickly as possible," said Skarbalius. "I am glad that I have been working for several months, so I just need to continue what we started."
