London's "Arsenal" defender Shkodran Mustafi smiled as he heard the news that he is supposedly the second worst defender in the world.
In a survey conducted by the publication "Marca," more than 150,000 internet users participated, and the German defender outperformed only "Man Utd" representative Phil Jones.
"The first two years at the 'Arsenal' club went very well for me," the football player said to "Spiegel."
"However, things started to change after Christmas in 2018. I made several mistakes which resulted in confusion, something I had not encountered before.
I received numerous negative comments from the 'Arsenal' fan community on Instagram and Twitter, and I was crucified in articles.
I realized that I made mistakes and thought I could handle the harsh criticism, but eventually, the attacks became irrational and constant. I became a target. People blamed me for failures even when I wasn't playing," the German said.
"At that time, my wife helped me a lot by reminding me that if I were as bad as the fans claimed, I would never have become a world champion and a player for 'Arsenal'."
