Last season, Mateo Kovacic, who played on loan at London's Chelsea, will no longer return to Madrid's Real.
"Sky Sport Italia" and "Daily Telegraph" reported that Chelsea reached an agreement with Real regarding the acquisition of the Croatian player. He was loaned at the request of Maurizio Sarri, but the green light for the deal was given shortly before Frank Lampard became the manager of the Blues.
According to the sources mentioned, Real Madrid will receive 50 million euros for the 25-year-old Croat, who was bought from Inter Milan in 2015.
Chelsea, under a transfer ban, could still make the deal because Kovacic was already registered as a Chelsea player last season, allowing them to acquire his full rights.
Last season, Kovacic played 51 matches for Chelsea, but failed to make a significant impact in any of them.
