The only goal for the winners was scored by Geny Caetano in the 29th minute.

This was the first match for the new "green and white" team strategist Rui Borges.

After the victory, the Lisbon club Sporting shares 1st-2nd place with Porto, having 40 points. Benfica is 2 points behind the championship leaders.
