Steven Reid has dropped out of the lineup for six months due to a road injury sustained during training, which means that the member of the Irish national team will not appear on the field this season.
For the 25-year-old safety, this season is a nightmare - he has only played three games for his club so far. In early September, Reid broke his back during a match with the German national team. Just over a month later, doctors informed the footballer that due to worsening consequences of the injury, including tiny cracks in the bones and muscle activity deterioration, he will not be able to play for another four months. Finally, Reid suffered a serious knee injury during training and his season is over.
"We are very sorry for Steven. He worked very hard to recover quickly and return to the field," disappointed Blackburn president John Williams said.
Reid joined Blackburn in the summer of 2003 from Millwall for £2.5 million and after last season, he extended his contract for another four years. Unfortunately, the safety will miss not only the remaining games of the season with the team in the Premier League or UEFA Cup, but also will not represent the Irish national team in the matches against San Marino, Wales, and Slovakia.
It is believed that Blackburn coach Martin Hughes will try to call up Birmingham safety David Dunn to replace the Irish player.
