Stankevičius will continue his career at "Valencia" club © EuroFootball.com

The best Lithuanian footballer of 2009, Marius Stankevičius, has a new club - the defender has signed a contract with "Valencia".

"Los Che" finished last season in third place in the Spanish championship and secured a spot in the Champions League, but in the summer they lost defenders Carlos Marchena and Alexis, so they were looking to strengthen their squad.

"Valencia" borrowed Stankevičius from Genoa's "Sampdoria" for a year, and next summer will have the option to buy out his contract for 3 million euros.

Lithuanian was also sought after by Spanish clubs such as Barcelona's "Espanyol", "Osasuna", "Hercules", but he accepted an offer from Valencia.

According to UEFA rules, Stankevičius will be able to play in the Champions League, even though he played in the qualifying stages with "Sampdoria".
