One of the leaders of the Bundesliga showed interest in the club's goalkeeper Jens Lehmann. The 35-year-old veteran has been a backup goalkeeper for the London club for some time, but this situation may change in the near future, as M. Almunia, who is currently guarding the goal, is not playing completely reliably.
In the "Stuttgart" club, J. Lehmann is most likely to replace Timo Hildebrand, who will leave the club this summer. J. Lehmann's current contract is valid until 2006.
"We have two good goalkeepers in our team - Dirk Heinen and [Jens Lehmann], but we always monitor players in the market," said "Stuttgart" president Erwin Staudt. The president also acknowledged that he alone will not decide whether to acquire a goalkeeper or not.
However, Lehmann himself does not seem to want to leave the club - "I will continue to fight and try to regain my position. It is very likely that I will stay in the London club for a very long time."
