As reported by the "Stuttgart" club on Saturday, the team's forward Mario Gomez ruptured the ligaments in his left knee during the match against "Wolfsburg" and will be out of action for about six weeks.
M. Gomez, who has scored the most goals in the Bundesliga, sustained the injury in the 39th minute of the match while attempting a shot on goal. The player was substituted, and later examinations revealed that he had torn knee ligaments.
"It saddened me, it saddened all of us," said "Stuttgart" team manager Armin Veh after learning of the injury consequences.
Due to this injury, M. Gomez will also miss the 2008 European Championship qualification match against the Czech national team on March 24th.
