"Sūduva" Fallen in Kaunas Will Remain without Europe © V. Kuralaviciaus

On Sunday, in the "Optibet A Lyga", the battles of the 35th round continued. In Kaunas district, "Hegelmann" at home 2:0 (2:0) managed to take care of Marijampolė's "Sūduva" and thus buried the hopes of their competitors to fight for a place in the next season's UEFA Conference League.

At the beginning of the match, both teams played evenly and did not differ in dangerous opportunities. However, the residents of Kaunas stepped up their game and were able to score two goals in two minutes.

In the 21st minute, Alex Souza made a pass from the left side to the center of the penalty area and, after getting rid of the opponents, Augustinas Klimavičius struck a precise head shot. The Lithuanian national team striker scored his first goal after a five-month break.

Soon, "Hegelmann" launched a lightning-fast attack, in which the second goal was scored. Yukioshi Karashima broke through towards the penalty area and hit the ball into the top corner of the goal with a powerful shot.

The best opportunity to narrow the margin for the "Sūduva" team came in the 30th minute - the goalkeeper repelled a dangerous shot by Giedrius Matulevičius, and Markas Beneta missed the target when trying to shoot the rebound next to the right post.

After the break, "Sūduva" tried to find opportunities to score, but apart from a close-range shot by Simonas Urbys, they did not pose any major threats to their opponents. "Hegelmann" could have made the result more convincing, but Thompson Gavi's shot hit the crossbar.

"Hegelmann" (60 points) temporarily rose to second place after the victory and will determine their fate in the final round. "Sūduva" (54 points) no longer has a chance to finish in the top four and will miss out on European competitions next season.
