"Sunderland" announced on Monday afternoon on its official website that Gus Poyet has been dismissed from his position as head coach.
The 46-year-old strategist from Uruguay began coaching "Sunderland" in October 2013, but due to poor results this season (17th place in the Premier League - ed. note), Poyet was not allowed to finish.
"I would like to thank Gus for all his efforts for the club. However, this season has not been successful for us and we cannot accept being at the bottom of the table," said "Black Cats" chairman Ellis Short.
Poyet had previously worked at "West Brom" as well, but was dismissed after four years.
"Sunderland" emphasized that a new coach for the team should be announced soon.
