On Monday evening another intriguing EURO 2020 quarterfinal took place. Switzerland secured a spot in the quarterfinals after playing a dramatic match with the world champions France and defeating them in a penalty shootout after a 3:3 draw. It was the Swiss who took the lead first, with Haris Seferovic heading the ball into the net. In the 55th minute Switzerland had a golden opportunity to double their lead, but Ricardo Rodriguez missed the penalty kick. Just a few minutes later, Karim Benzema skillfully finished the ball in the penalty area and leveled the match. In the 59th minute, Benzema scored again, putting France ahead. The highlight of the match was Paul Pogba's bomb in the 75th minute, after which it seemed like Switzerland's chances to fight for a place in the quarterfinals were fading away. However, Switzerland did not give up and in the 81st minute, Seferovic equalized for his team. In the 90th minute, Switzerland did the seemingly impossible - Mario Gavranovic scored to level the result and the teams had to play extra time. Neither team managed to score in extra time, and in the penalty shootout, the Swiss were more accurate, winning 5:4. Kylian Mbappe missed the crucial penalty kick.
