CIES Football Observatory shared data on player transfers from last summer's transfer window and determined that the best deal was made by Madrid's "Real" club.
T. Courtois, who was recognized as the best goalkeeper of the World Cup, left London's "Chelsea" in the summer and returned to Madrid. It was believed that 35 million euros were paid for the Belgian, but according to CIES data, the deal cost 40 million euros.
According to the mentioned source, the true value of this player was 62.6 million euros, so Madrid's "Real" received the goalkeeper 22.6 million euros cheaper.
The second place went to another Madrid team - "Atletico" acquired holding midfielder Rodri for 25 million euros, who was valued at 46.9 million euros that summer. So, "Los Rojiblancos" got him 21.9 million euros cheaper.
The worst summer deal is considered to be Kepa's arrival at London's "Chelsea". According to CIES data, the true price of the goalkeeper last summer was 35.3 million euros, but "Chelsea" paid 80 million euros for him. "The Blues" overpaid 44.7 million euros for him.
CIES data also reveals that "Manchester City" paid a whopping 85 million euros for Riyad Mahrez. His value was 57 million euros, so the "Cityzens" overpaid 28 million euros.
