26-year-old Real Madrid and German national team midfielder Toni Kroos did not hide his joy after yesterday's match, but emphasized that the team has not yet reached the level they truly desire.
Yesterday, goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Bastian Schweinsteiger secured a 2-0 victory for Germany against Ukraine. The world champions took the lead in Group C, but they still have matches against the national teams of Poland and Northern Ireland ahead of them.
T. Kroos, who was named the best player of the match, said after the game: "This is just the beginning. Of course, a 2-0 victory gives us confidence. The game went smoothly, we used the spaces well and made a lot of successful passes."
"The first 15 minutes were quite challenging for us, but later we gradually took control. I don't remember if the opponents had any chances to score in the second half of the match.
"For now, we are not at the level we want to be in this championship, but this victory was really sweet," added one of Germany's national team cornerstones.
Germany will play their next Group C match on June 16th. They will also face the national team of Poland, who also secured a victory in their first match.
