While the other players of Madrid's "Real" team and the head coach talk about the unfinished battle in the Spanish "La Liga" championship, Toni Kroos reminds everyone of reality by saying that they are already fighting this season in Spain only for a spot in next year's UEFA Champions League.
Yesterday, "Real" continued their crisis at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium. At the end of the match, "Villarreal" unexpectedly shocked the country's champions, who dominated the game and had many more opportunities, but lost concentration in the final minutes and were once again harshly punished for it.
"Real" is already behind by a 16-point difference from the fourth-place "Barcelona" team in the "La Liga" standings. When asked if the championship is already over for them, T. Kroos replied:
"From the current perspective, we should first be certain that we will make it to the Champions League. I think that should be our main goal of the season, because a 16-point gap from the leaders is simply too big. I don't think we are in a position now to talk about trying to catch up with the leaders."
"In these matches, what happens very often this season happened - we play pretty well, but we just can't score. It's a very tough period for us because we give our all on the field, but the ball just doesn't want to end up in the net. It's a problem that we are really struggling with.
"Against Villarreal, we tried everything - we pressed them in their half, won battles for the first balls, created chances in both the first and second half, but we couldn't achieve victory. We understand well that we have to win such matches, but right now we somehow can't do it, so we have to continue the work we started," added T. Kroos. "
