Before the 2025 football season, changes occurred in the goalkeeper line of the "Kauno Žalgiris" football club. After Ignas Plūkas' contract ended, he will be replaced in the "Kauno Žalgiris" squad by Tomas Švedkauskas.
At the beginning of December, I. Plūkas celebrated his 31st birthday and joined "Kauno Žalgiris" before the 2023 season, defending the team's goals in the "TOPsport A League" and the LFF Cup a total of 20 times. In the last season, he appeared in 7 matches.
Six months younger, T. Švedkauskas arrives in Kaunas after spending a year at the "Panevėžys" club. The Marijampolė native, who had a long-term contract with the legendary "Roma" club, was loaned during his career to teams such as "Paganese," "Pescara," "Ascoli," "Lupa," and "Catanzaro" in Italy, and also played for "Olhanense" (Portugal), Arad UTA (Romania), and "Lommel" (Belgium).
T. Švedkauskas, who has previously been the main goalkeeper of the Lithuanian national team, has also worn the jerseys of Vilnius "Riteriai," Alytus "Dainava," Marijampolė "Sūduva," and Kaunas district "Hegelmann" in Lithuania.
"I am happy to have received the offer and thank the coaching staff and the club for their confidence. I will repay that confidence with maximum dedication and work in training every day; I will strive to make myself and the entire team better," said the new Žalgiris player to Žalgiris.lt.
Currently, goalkeepers Deividas Mikelionis and Jurgis Mikšūnas also have contracts with the club.
