Gianluigi Buffon is not facing the easiest season in the ranks of Paris Saint-Germain - he will have to fight hard for the role of the first goalkeeper.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper signed a two-year contract with PSG this summer. It is unknown whether he was promised the role of the first goalkeeper, but at the moment the Italian is forced to yield this position to the excellent-playing Alphonse Areola.
"Gigi is not the player who just sits on the bench. His experience has a huge impact on the whole team," said head coach Thomas Tuchel.
"He played really well against Guingamp, but in other matches I chose Areola, because he simply needs playing time. I have not made a final decision on the main goalkeeper, but Areola is currently the favorite in this position.
I am happy to have such a player in our ranks. He is a product of the academy who wants to prove his worth. With Gigi, the situation is completely different - he is already a legend, with whom even Areola measures himself," added the strategist.
