T. Vermaelen: Choosing "Barcelona" wasn't very difficult

After the signing ceremony of the contract, at his first press conference at "Barcelona", newcomer Thomas Vermaelen stated that choosing the new team was not difficult.

According to the media, the 28-year-old Belgian national team footballer was actively interested not only in the Catalan club, but also in the "Manchester United" team. However, the defender will continue his career at "Barca".

The Catalans paid 10 million euros to Th. Vermaelen's London "Arsenal" team, and offered the Belgian a five-year contract.

"I know perfectly well how tough the competition is in the new team, but I think it will be beneficial for me. I am convinced that I can also be useful to 'Barca'. It was not very difficult to choose to come here," - affirmed the new team member.

The Belgian national team defender will need a couple of weeks to recover from an injury he suffered in the World Cup in Brazil, but the player himself did not lack optimism: "Now the most important thing is what awaits me in the future. I want to play and help the team. I hope all the failures are in the past. The past season was tough, but now everything will need to start from scratch, and that's good."

"I talked on the phone with Luis Enrique about my game, listened to what the coach wanted from me, we talked about the positions in which I can play. I know what aspects of my game I need to improve. I hope to take advantage of all the opportunities that Luis Enrique will give me," - stated Th. Vermaelen.
