The English Premier League finally followed the example of other leagues and from next season will allow teams to make up to five substitutions per match. The rule of five substitutions was temporarily introduced after the coronavirus pandemic, but many leagues continue to use it, however the Premier League had returned to the usual three substitution limit. However, it was decided at a meeting of league representatives on Thursday that five substitutions will be allowed in Premier League matches from next season.
