Telšiai's ‘Džiugas’ defeated the ‘Panevėžys’ club

The 6th round of the "TOPsport A League" began with a match between "Panevėžys" and the "Džiugas" team from Telšiai. After a productive first half, the players from Telšiai gained an advantage that they maintained until the final whistle and celebrated a victory away from home 0:1 (0:1).

Right from the start of the match, both teams exchanged shots and dangerous attacks. The guests from Žemaitija posed a threat to the goal defended by Vytautas Černiauskas already in the 4th minute after a shot from Simonas Urbys from the 16-meter line, and shortly after, there was serious danger in the penalty area after a header.

However, "Panevėžys" was also active – Ernestas Veliulis tested Marius Paukštė's reaction with a left-footed shot. In the 24th minute, after a pass from the left flank, Rokas Rasimavičius made an unsuccessful play in the penalty area, and afterward, Isaac Asante tried to take a repeat shot.

Eventually, after taking a corner, Telšiai's "Džiugas" broke the ice. Oleksandro Kurcevo's header rattled the goal frame, and the first to rush to the conveniently rebounding ball was Simonas Urbys, who sent it into the net with his head.

At the end of the half, "Panevėžys" still had opportunities to equalize the score from set pieces, but they failed to create any dangerous moments.

The second half started more actively for the players from Panevėžys – Domantas Vaičekauskas took a shot with his right foot, and shortly afterward, after Fausto Steponavičius' shot, the ball was cleared off the goal line by Dejanas Trajkovskis, saving his team from conceding.

Having defended for a bit longer, "Džiugas" mounted a more dangerous attack only in the 70th minute when Deitonas Vinckus, taking advantage of A. Karvatskio's mistake, made a shot very close to the goal. Oleksandras Kurcevas had another opportunity in the 80th minute. The forward made a run with the ball and, having evaded three opponents, could have increased "Džiugas's" lead, but his shot was unsuccessful.

In the remaining time of the match, the players from Panevėžys launched various positional attacks, took shots, but they could not break through the solid defense of Andrius Lipskis' team. Having secured the victory, "Džiugas" footballers added three points to their account and ended a two-match losing streak.
