Carlos Tevez has permanently lost the captain's armband.
The Argentine this summer did not hide his desire to leave the English club, but negotiations with potential buyers ended in failure. Therefore, coach Roberto Mancini decided to appoint defender Vincent Kompany as captain.
"Carlos wanted to leave due to family circumstances. I respect his opinion, but we did not find a solution," said Mancini. "Therefore, this summer I decided that Kompany should be the captain."
This season, Tevez appeared on the field only once - after being substituted in a match against Bolton.
In interviews, the Argentine repeatedly stated that he has been struggling with depression in recent months, leading to weight problems. Last season, the striker scored 20 goals in the Premier League and was one of the top scorers.
