The German Football Federation (DFB) has accepted a lucrative but unpopular proposal from new kit manufacturers.
On Thursday, the DFB announced that the partnership with local brand "Adidas" that had lasted for over 70 years will come to an end in 2026. "Nike" will now take over the reins.
According to the German media, "Nike" offered twice as much money. Their contract with the DFB will be worth 100 million euros per year, while "Adidas" had a 50 million euro deal.
"Adidas" spokesperson Oliver Bruggenas expressed surprise at this sudden decision by the DFB: "Our contract with the German Football Federation was supposed to last until 2026. Today, the DFB informed us that from 2027 they will have new kit manufacturers."
Former "Adidas" CEO and current "Bayern" president Herbert Hainer remarked: "I don't know the details of this agreement and the background, but I am surprised by this DFB decision after 70 years of successful cooperation. "
"Adidas" has always been a good and completely reliable partner for the Bayern team, with whom the club has successfully worked for over 60 years.
German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann did not want to pay too much attention to this situation: "I can understand every opinion, including the fans' and the DFB's. But at the moment, this is not my job. We have two important matches coming up and then the European Championship. I want to use this time for football, not other things."
