On Saturday the first 2022 English Premier League matches took place. In a dramatic match at Arsenal's home ground in London, the home team lost 1-2 to the championship leaders Manchester City. Both teams played attacking football from the start of the match, and in the 12th minute the referee hesitated to award a penalty to Man City after Ederson fouled the opponent in the penalty area. However, Arsenal managed to score first - Bukayo Saka scored in the 31st minute. In the 57th minute, Man City equalized from a penalty kick which was awarded after a VAR review, converted by Riyad Mahrez. In the following attack, the hosts had a chance to regain the lead, but Man City defender Nathan Ake cleared the ball off the goal line. In the 59th minute, Arsenal was reduced to ten men - Gabriel received his second yellow card. Arsenal held on for a long time with a numerical disadvantage, but in added time Manchester City secured the victory with a goal from Rodri.
