Today, after the UEFA Champions League draw ceremony, the best footballer of the last season in Europe was announced. Cristiano Ronaldo became the winner.
The candidates for this title were Antoine Griezmann (Atletico), Gareth Bale, and Cristiano Ronaldo (both Real Madrid). However, Ronaldo outperformed the others and received the trophy. The Portuguese won the Champions League tournament with Real Madrid this season and also secured the European champions title with the Portuguese national team.
This is the second time the 31-year-old forward has won this award. He previously received the same prize after the 2013-2014 season. Immediately after receiving the award, Ronaldo didn't miss the opportunity to thank his teammates.
"My teammates have contributed the most to this award, they are the most important every year. I work hard, but without the help of my teammates, it wouldn't be possible. Thank you to my teammates in the Real team and the Portuguese national team," Ronaldo said.
Last season, Ronaldo scored 35 goals in 36 La Liga matches, and he scored 16 goals in 12 Champions League matches, becoming the top scorer of the tournament. In the European Championship, Ronaldo scored three goals.
