Today, together with the UEFA Champions League draw, the best UEFA players of the past season were announced.
The best UEFA player of the year was named Real Madrid's player Cristiano Ronaldo. The 32-year-old player had an amazing season - as a forward, he not only won La Liga with his team, but also the Champions League title, and C. Ronaldo himself contributed to this achievement by scoring 12 goals in Europe and 25 goals in the Spanish championship.
The first award of the evening was received by Francesco Totti, who ended his career last summer. He was awarded the "President's" trophy, which is given for outstanding achievements throughout a career.
The best goalkeeper of the previous Champions League season was recognized as Gianluigi Buffon. The 39-year-old goalkeeper kept his goal "dry" for 8 times in that season and helped Juventus reach the Champions League final.
The best defender title was awarded to Sergio Ramos, Real Madrid's player. The Spanish defender won his third Champions League title last season.
The best midfielder was also recognized as a Real Madrid player. The award was received by the Croatian Luka Modrić.
There were no surprises in the best forward category. Cristiano Ronaldo won this title.
The title of the best female player of the year was awarded to Lieke Martens. The 24-year-old from the Netherlands scored three goals last season in her national team's victory at the UEFA Women's Championship.
