Captain Vincent Kompany has signed a new six-year contract with the club.
The 26-year-old Belgian arrived in England in August 2008 from Hamburg and made a significant contribution to last season's triumph in the English championship.
"When everything is going well, I don't see the point in looking for other options," said Kompany. "Manchester City is not just the owners' or club employees' project - it's also my project."
He added: "I've been here from the very beginning and have seen all the changes with my own eyes. I feel like I contributed to this myself, so I'm very happy with this contract."
Last season, he scored three goals in 31 matches.
