One of the most famous Spanish referees of all time, Mateu Lahoz, will soon hang up his boots.

Argentinian journalist Gastonas Edul has reported that M. Lahoz will officially end his referee career after this season.

The 45-year-old Spaniard made quite a name for himself in the past month. He showed 15 yellow cards in the World Cup quarterfinal match between the Netherlands and Argentina, continued to show two red cards and 14 yellow cards in the Barcelona derby, and yesterday, he sent off "Sevilla" coach Jorge Sampaoli just 18 minutes into the "Copa del Rey" match.

However, M. Lahoz announced that he would retire after the 2021 European Championship, but it ultimately did not happen.

Several players complained about this referee after the famous World Cup quarterfinal.
