The decision of B. Schweinsteiger shocked the referee before the penalty shootout

More and more details are emerging about the memorable penalty shootout series in the European Championship quarterfinals between the national teams of Germany and Italy.

Advancing to the semifinals were Joachim Low's pupils, or more precisely their captain Bastian Schweinsteiger, who opted for a risky decision - having the right to choose which goal the shots would be taken at, the German midfielder pointed towards the side of Italy's fans.

The match referee Viktor Kassai did not expect this turn of events and asked several times: "Are you sure on this side? Really? On this side?"

After the victory, Schweinsteiger revealed the reason for his choice.

"I remembered previous series I had participated in. Especially against 'Chelsea' in the 2012 Champions League final. We used to shoot right next to our team's fans," - the midfielder talked about the painful defeat.

It was also mentioned that in this championship, the Swiss lost to the Poles, despite having the support of their own fans behind the goal.
