Louis van Gaal could return to the Dutch national team in the near future. However, his duties would be different this time and he would work as an advisor.
Former Manchester United coach took over the reins of the "Oranje" team after the disastrous 2012 European Championship and led the national team to third place in the World Cup just two years later.
However, after van Gaal stepped down, the new strategist Guus Hiddink had to be dismissed even before the end of the 2016 European Championship qualification cycle, and his successor Danny Blind said goodbye to his post yesterday.
"For the positions we are looking at, we have a technical director, but we will also seek many other experts," said Jean Paul Decossaux, a representative of the Dutch Football Association, in response to van Gaal in De Telegraaf. "We hope to reach an agreement with a new coach, but it will not be done in a week. The period until the matches in June seems logical."
"This list should include all kinds of names - a foreign coach is also a possibility."
"Ronald Koeman is certainly suitable, but I know he has a contract with a club."
"Tomorrow Dutch football can take a step forward."
The Dutch national team, after playing five matches, is three points behind the Swedes holding the second place in Group A of the qualifiers, and six points behind the leader France.
