The head coach of the Dutch national team, Louis van Gaal, received bad news - left-back defender Jetro Willems will not be able to help the team in the 2014 World Cup.

The young 20-year-old footballer from the PSV team suffered a serious knee injury during Sunday's Eredivisie match against Feyenoord and was substituted at the end of the first half.

After further examinations yesterday, it became clear that this season is already over for the defender and J. Willems will be out of the squad for several months.

"Jetro Willems will not step onto the field this season," the PSV club announced. "The footballer suffered a knee injury and now his goal is to prepare for the next season."

Despite his young age, J. Willems helped the Dutch team in the 2012 European Championship. This season, the footballer played 34 matches and scored four goals.
