40-year-old Turin's "Juventus" goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon confirmed at a specially arranged press conference that this season is his last in the ranks of the Italian champions.
G. Buffon is saying goodbye to "Juventus" after 17 years together. The legendary Italian joined the "old lady" in 2001, leaving "Parma" for then a record transfer fee.
It was thought that the Italian would extend his contract with "Juventus" for another season and then end his career, but the parting happened today. The player himself has not yet decided on his further career.
In an emotional press conference, G. Buffon said: "This is a very difficult day for me. I have reached the end of a journey during which I had the opportunity to work with extraordinary people.

"I feel strong enough at this age. It is thanks to 'Juventus' and the mentality that has always been here. My philosophy will not change and after leaving I will continue my life and career in the same way I acquired here. I do not know any other way to achieve desired results more successfully.
"If I decide to continue my career, it will certainly not be an easy choice. It will be something I will think about long and hard. I do not want to end my career playing in a lower league."
G. Buffon played 655 matches in total for "Juventus" during 17 years. The goalkeeper's trophy cabinet is also impressive - nine "Serie A" titles, four Italian Cups, and five Super Cup trophies.
The goalkeeper also mentioned in the press conference that his career is over for the Italian national team. G. Buffon defended his country's colors in 2006 when he won the World Cup.
