This innovation was beneficial and fans watched more battles on the field.
However, returning to the usual club football veins, it was calculated that at least in England more than a third of the match is often devoted not to kicking the ball on the field.
For example, in the match between Arsenal and Newcastle United, the ball was in play for only 51 minutes and 23 seconds.
Opta Analyst announces that this number is even lower than this season's Premier League match average - 54 minutes and 49 seconds.
