Jorge Acuña, the defender of the second Feyenoord team, was seriously injured during a reserve team match against another Dutch club, Ajax Amsterdam, as reported on the official club website. The Chilean player suffered head, neck, chest, and abdominal injuries when Ajax fans unexpectedly invaded the field at the "De Toekomst" stadium. Several other Rotterdam team players, including regular starters Robin van Persie and Danko Lazović, were also injured, but their injuries are not as serious as Acuña's, who was immediately taken to the hospital in an ambulance. "It was a terrible chaos," said Mario Beenas, coach of the Feyenoord second team. "My players were lying on the grass all over the field, they were helped by the Ajax second team coach John van Schip and Ajax player Daniel de Ridder." Such behavior of the fans was also condemned by Feyenoord's general director Arie van Eijden.
