Until the most awaited event of this year - the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship - there is only a month left.

Feel the spirit of the European Football Championship, invites the official championship partner "Lidl", presenting a collection of 108 of the most famous European football player cards.

"We will enjoy the upcoming football event not only in front of TV screens, but also every day, after work or during summer holidays playing football outside. We hope that this joy will be enhanced by the collectible cards featuring more than 100 of the best football players from all over Europe. "Lidl" is the official partner of the UEFA EURO 2024 European Football Championship taking place in Germany this year, so we aim for every shopper to fully feel the spirit of football," says Kristina Mažeikytė, head of marketing department at "Lidl Lithuania."

Although football is one of the oldest sports, the first sports cards were actually inspired by baseball, and its cards appeared at the end of the 19th century. In the fourth decade of the 20th century, biographies of athletes started to be printed on baseball cards, and the cards themselves were assembled in chewing gum packages. In 1950, the American company "Topps Chewing Gum Inc." began putting cards with television and movie stars, as well as American football players, into their chewing gum packages. A bit later, in 1952, the company started producing the collectible cards we know today, featuring athletes' biographies, achievements, and other statistics.

It is this company that also produced the "UEFA EURO 2024" collectible cards that can be obtained by "Lidl" customers. Collectible sports cards became extremely popular in the ninth decade of the last century, realizing that they could become very valuable in the future. Currently, the most valuable sports card is considered to be the 1952 "Topps" issued baseball player Mickey Mantle card, which was purchased at an auction in August 2022 for nearly $13 million USD. Every time you shop at any "Lidl" retail store in Lithuania for 15 Euros or more, you can receive a free pack of blue cards containing 3 cards with UEFA EURO 2024 football player images; shopping for 30 Euros or more - two packs of blue cards, and so on.

It is emphasized that both the collectible cards and the collector's book are made of high-quality paper, and the strong laminate ensures the longevity of the products. The collection includes more than 100 different cards containing relevant statistical data and achievements of the most famous European football players. Therefore, you will be able to follow your favorite footballers not only during the European Championship, but also every day, as well as exchange cards with other collectors.
