In the tenth round of the Lithuanian student football league, Vilnius University team lost 0:1 to Klaipėda University and transferred the championship question to the final match. The winning goal in the middle of the first half was scored by Dovydas Komža, who usually plays as a goalkeeper.
From the very beginning of the match, the game shifted to the side of the Klaipėda team. Both in terms of gameplay and territorial advantage, Vilnius University clearly dominated. Even in terms of dangerous opportunities, the Vilnius team outranked their opponents from the coastal city.
The first two dangerous episodes belonged to Giedrius Onuškevičius, but in the first attempt, he missed near the goal, and in the second - he shot straight into the hands of the opposing goalkeeper, Darius Kublickas.
Then it was the turn of the guests. After a counterattack on the right side, the ball was lifted into the penalty area, and D. Komža, who ended up there, sent the ball into the net with an unstoppable shot.
"There are no miracles, the mood determines the result. In all matches so far, we stood out with energy, better physical preparation, and this time, unfortunately, it wasn't there. Throughout the 90 minutes, we couldn't wake up. On the other hand, even playing like this, I think we didn't deserve to lose," - said VU coach Rimantas Turskis after the match.
In the first half, there were no particularly good episodes created near either goal, and in the second half, VU's gameplay advantage became even greater. The Klaipėda team closed themselves in their penalty area and once again missed the mark because of it. D. Komža, remaining on his goal line, played with his hand, the referee awarded a penalty kick. Povilas Kalimavičius hit the ball against the crossbar, and the result remained unchanged.
As the match was ending, Emilis Varnas received a red card for insulting the referee. This means that this LSFL season is over for him.
Overall, the season will end next Thursday with a match between VU and Vilnius TECH. The former just need a draw to defend their title, while Vilnius TECH will remain in third place anyway. By the way, if Giedrius Barevičius' team wins, there will be golden matches between VU and KU.
