Although the World Cup will start in almost a month, the delegation of the Togo national team already landed at Stuttgart airport this Monday and will hold a four-week training camp in Germany before the first tournament matches.
The Togo team flew to Germany directly from the Netherlands, where last week they played a friendly match against another World Cup preparing team, Saudi Arabia, and lost with a score of 1-0.
"Without a doubt, we are one of the underdogs of the tournament," openly stated Togo coach Otto Pfister. "But I still believe that my team can surprise football experts in this championship."
"The most important match for us will be the first one against South Korea. If we manage to win this match, all the remaining matches for the team will be as important as the final," continued the coach.
Recall that Togo will start their World Cup battles in Group G, along with South Korea, Switzerland, and one of the favorites to win the championship, the French national team.
As soon as the Togo national team members landed at the airport, they were officially welcomed by the German football officials and escorted by police crews to the training base in Wangane.
Meanwhile, the World Cup hosts, the Germans, will gather in their homeland only on June 4th. Until then, from May 16th, the German national team will participate in friendly tournaments in Sardinia and Geneva.
