Former Lithuanian football player and coach Algimantas Mitigaila passed away. He was 79 years old.

A. Mitigaila was born in Joniškėlis and was invited to join the Klaipėda "Granitas" football champions team in 1965. That year, he graduated from the KKI and received a university diploma. His first coach was Jonas Vaškelis.

While studying with "Atletas", A. Mitigaila took third place in the Lithuanian championship. He played eight seasons in the teams of "Granitas" and "Atletas", and was their captain. After finishing his playing career, A. Mitigaila successfully worked as a coach. In 1977, he won the "Tiesa Cup" with Klaipėda "Granitas". For six years, A. Mitigaila coached the champions team of "Atletas", which participated in the former Soviet Union championships. Later, A. Mitigaila worked as a coach and president of the current "Atlantas".

From 1973 to 1975, he was a coach at the Sports School of Games, and from 1975 to 1976, he was the deputy director of the school. Later, he started working at the Klaipėda football school, where he trained many football players.
