The found airplane that flew Argentine E. Sala (supplemented)

The missing plane carrying Argentine Emiliano Sala and his pilot was found, investigators announced on Sunday.

"I can confirm that it has been found," said a representative of the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) to AFP news agency.

According to her, AAIB will release an official statement on Monday.

The light aircraft that took off from France on January 21, flying Sala to his new club Cardiff City, disappeared near the Channel Islands.

Last Wednesday, pieces of the presumed aircraft were washed up on the coast of Normandy, France.

Sala, who previously played for French club Nantes, flew in a Piper PA-46 Malibu aircraft, securing a €17 million deal with Cardiff.

The plane disappeared from radar screens approximately 20 km north of Guernsey island. In the aircraft with Sala was only the pilot Dave Ibbotson.

David Mearns, whose private search company Blue Water Recoveries was hired by Sala's family to search for the plane, wrote on Twitter that the crashed aircraft was found early on Sunday.

REPORTED: Investigators found one of the deceased bodies in the aircraft. At the moment, efforts are being made to recover the plane from the ocean floor.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has confirmed that tragically a person is visible in the underwater footage of the aircraft Emiliano Sala and pilot Dave Ibbotson were on. They are now considering the next step.
