The Madrid "Real" striker Karim Benzema, who is recovering from an injury, is in serious trouble - on Wednesday morning he was detained by the French police. The athlete is accused of sexually blackmailing a teammate, reports sport.pl.
He is suspected of blackmailing French national team member Mathieu Valbuena. It is alleged that K. Benzema and his colleagues blackmailed M. Valbuena by claiming to have a video in which the football player is engaged in sexual activities with a girl.
The accusations against K. Benzema are very serious. They are classified as participation in a criminal group and extortion. This could lead to up to five years in prison.
It all started when M. Valbuena turned to the police in the summer, as a criminal group demanded 50-100 thousand euros from him.
When the police started tracking the calls, it became clear that three blackmailers are in prison. They all claimed to have connections with a football agent. This is how the suspicions finally reached K. Benzema.
The footballer was detained at his home in France.
