Alberto Aquilani's future is uncertain at his club in Turin and in the Italian national team.

The 26-year-old footballer, who belongs to Liverpool, was loaned out to the 'old lady' this summer with the option to buy his contract for 16 million euros.

Aquilani has recently struggled to regain his lost form. Furthermore, the player pulled a muscle in his leg two weeks ago and had to miss matches against Bologna and Milan.

Italy's national team coach Cesare Prandelli may not call up the midfielder for the European Championship qualifier match between Italy and Slovenia on March 25.

It is believed that Aquilani's place in the team will be taken by the Brazilian midfielder Thiago Motta, who currently plays for Inter Milan.

Juventus' sporting director Giuseppe Marotta does not intend to buy Aquilani for the amount stated in the loan agreement, nor does he want to pay his annual salary of almost four million euros. Marotta will try to negotiate with Liverpool for a lower redemption price.

If negotiations fail, Juventus may attract Milan's midfielder Andrea Pirlo. His contract with Italy expires this summer and he is likely to bid farewell to the Milan club.
