The future of Madrid's star David Beckham in the club remains unclear - although sports director Predrag Mijatovič was quoted in an interview with "Sky Italia" television admitting that the "royal" club will not extend the contract with the former England national team player, according to the player's representative, it was just a misunderstanding.

The 31-year-old footballer will become a free agent this summer, so negotiations for a new two-year contract have been ongoing for some time. Director P. Mijatovič's words caused a stir, supposedly "D. Beckham will leave "Real," the contract will not be extended."

Beckham's representative rushed to deny the rumors, promising to return to the negotiating table with the club soon: "I have spoken to Real Madrid, and they said it was just a misunderstanding about Mijatovič's interview. Real's offer is still valid, and another meeting should take place in a couple of days."

The leaders of one of Spain's most powerful teams have repeatedly stated their desire to keep the Englishman for a few more seasons, but the situation was complicated by the fact that Beckham lost his place in the starting lineup at Real and is not happy about it. Several financial contract details also complicate matters.

Several powerful European and other continent clubs are closely monitoring the situation, interested in the possibility of inviting the popular footballer to join their ranks.

Beckham is not the only star whose future in Madrid is reportedly hanging by a thread. The newspaper AS reported on Tuesday that the Brazilian forward Ronaldo will also not remain in the team, as he is wanted by the Saudi Arabian "Al Ittihad" club.
