After the unsuccessful start of the new "Bayern" coach Ottmar Hitzfeld on Friday, today's debut of the new "Hamburger" strategist Huub Stevens ended similarly - the port city club suffered another loss and remained at the bottom of the table.

The shining "Hamburger" club from last season was close to victory in an away match against "Hertha", but failed to maintain the lead and conceded two goals at the end of the match, losing 1-2. The winning goal in referee's added time was scored by the Brazilian Mineiro, who had just joined the team a couple of days ago, with a great shot from 28 meters sending the ball into the net.

The situation of the "Hamburger" team was further worsened by the success of their main competitors. The "Gladbach" club, who had performed very poorly in away matches so far, defeated "Arminia" 2-0 and took three points from Bielefeld, which helped the team to almost climb out of the relegation zone.

After the winter break, the outsiders "Mainz" have been collecting points successfully, this time ending the match against "Eintracht" in a draw and earning their seventh point in the last three matches.

After 20 rounds, "Mainz" occupies the second-to-last position, but is only one point behind the safe "Aachen" club, which suffered a crushing defeat at home to the visitors from Hanover on Saturday.
