Ivory Coast national team icon Didier Drogba has announced that he is permanently saying goodbye to the national team.
The 36-year-old footballer's last international tournament was the 2014 World Cup. The striker decided to focus all his attention on the new season and London's "Chelsea" club.
Drogba started playing for the Ivory Coast national team in 2002. Throughout this period, he appeared on the field 104 times and scored 65 goals, which earned him the title of the top scorer of the Ivory Coast national team.
"These 12 years in the national team were full of emotions - from the very first matches to the very last. I always tried to give my country as much as possible," said Drogba.
"I am also very proud that I have been the captain of the national team for the last eight years and contributed to qualifying for the World Cup. I am extremely happy that I had the opportunity to play in this team," concluded the veteran.
Drogba has been nominated three times as the best Ivory Coast footballer during his career.
