Italian national team midfielder Giorgio Chiellini will miss the European Championship quarterfinal match against England.
The footballer strained his thigh muscle in Monday's match against Ireland, so he will not appear on the field on Sunday.
"Of course, in such a tournament we do everything to help the player recover as quickly as possible, but in this case we decided not to take any risks," said Italy's team doctor Enrico Castellacci.
Chiellini has worn Italy's national team jersey 53 times. He will most likely be replaced on the field by Leonardo Bonucci.
